Digital Photography Services
The technology for digital photography was developed rather indirectly in the never-ending effort or search of the best possible picture. Digital cameras greatly improved the quality of an image or photo by increased resolution. This means a greater amount of detail is captured in the image than was previously possible. That is why digital cameras are advertised vigorously in megapixels (pixel itself means picture element) to entice buyers into thinking that higher megapixel capability translates into better pictures. This is not always the case as cameras vary greatly in features that also contribute towards overall photo quality such as single-colour sensitive photo sensors as opposed to the full-colour RGB (red, green and blue) sensors. But generally speaking, a larger photo sensor with the same pixel density as a smaller sensor will produce better photo quality. Another important feature to consider when buying digital cameras is the dynamic range which is the range of luminosity or brightness that can be captured together with the image without any distortions. Just as there is a case of background noise in audio recordings, there is also an equivalent phenomenon in photography called “image noise” or the presence of often unwanted and random distortions in brightness or colour.
The main selling points of digital cameras are their flexibility and connectivity. It is very easy to capture a digital image or picture and then just as easily share it with friends instantly by uploading the digital image on the Internet. This ease has led to the evolution and dynamic growth of so-called Web 2.0 sites such as Flickr and YouTube. Social networking sites also have gotten into the picture uploading business and gone a step further by also enabling video uploads. Most newer versions of digital cameras also have sound and video recording capabilities due to the vast improvements in chip technology. Quantum leaps in storage capacities of the chips allow more pictures to be stored before changing memory disks or flash memory cards. Many on-line sites on the Web offer digital printing services to their website visitors for competitive rates by allowing clients to upload their digital photo images. The only main drawback of digital photography is that cameras have a rather short battery life and needs to be re-charged quite often when used heavily. Another perceived but real shortcoming is the susceptibility of digital cameras to moisture.
